APIAN is a pionieering project by Dr. Tobias Englmeier and Isabella Hödl-Notter M.A. (both LMU Munich). Our vision is to create a platform that shares basic information on the Duchy of Bavaria regarding early modern state finances, law and administrative structures. The name APIAN refers to Philipp Apian (1531-1589), a pioneer in the fields of mathematics and cartography (among many), but also to the abbreviation for Application Programming Interface (API), as our goal is to share all the datasets freely.
